History of Oman Air
Oman Air was founded in 1970 with the personal assistance of reformist Sultan Qaboos ibn Said immediately after the country was opened to the outside world. In 1972, the state-owned aviation corporation was privatized and began operating scheduled passenger flights in the region. Since 1993 it has been known by its modern name. The company serves the passenger airports of Muscat, Salalah and Dhofar.
Realizing the impossibility of competing with the larger Emirates/Qatar Airlines, Oman Air focuses on comprehensive tourist support. The carrier has signed partnership agreements with more than 50 global hotel chains and transportation rental services. Customers have the opportunity to book accommodation services in 20 countries at a discount.
Oman Air fleet
The company’s fleet consists of 50 aircraft, with an average age of 10.5 years. By 2025, all B737 airliners will be withdrawn from Oman Air’s fleet and replaced by modern B787 modifications.

Upon arrival, the first class passenger will be transferred from the airport to the accommodation hotel.
Oman Air Loyalty Programs
Sindbad is Oman Air’s bonus program. For every dollar spent on purchasing the company’s services, a client receives 4 bonus miles. These miles can be spent on ticket purchases, upgrades and additional meals. Miles can be used to pay for transportation and hotel rentals from Oman Air partner companies.
A distinctive feature of Sindbad is the possibility to accumulate miles for purchases from the airline’s partners. The procedure takes place at a similar rate (4 miles/dollar). Miles are accumulated for the fact of service purchase (for example, for Muscat – Salalah ticket you get 20 miles for economy class ticket purchase and 40 miles for business class ticket purchase).
There are three levels of bonuses in the program: regular, Silver and Gold. At Silver level the client gets 25% more bonuses, at Gold level – 40% more. Program participants (regardless of the level) are offered free seat selection and the possibility to increase the weight of the baggage carried at a discount.
Baggage allowance
There are restrictions on baggage dimensions (158 cm in the sum of three dimensions for luggage and 115 cm for hand luggage). One piece of luggage cannot exceed 32 kilograms in weight. If it is exceeded, the passenger will be asked to transfer the baggage to another bag. Overweight for one piece is not allowed. Suitcases must be packed and free from signs of damage (scratches, cracks).
