Baggage allowance on Oman Air

A distinctive feature of Oman Air is its record baggage allowance: 30 kg for economy class passengers and up to 50 kg for business customers. Standard size limits apply (158 cm for three dimensions).

The following goods and substances are prohibited:

  • Unregistered weapons. Registered weapons should be disassembled, unloaded and packed in a case if possible. Cold weapons – in a scabbard;
  • Explosive and flammable substances – fuel, oils, greases of any kind, ammunition;
  • Lithium-ion batteries removed from devices. Any acids, alkalis or other corrosive substances that could damage the aircraft or the luggage of other passengers;
  • Chemicals, radioactive and biohazardous substances, even if packed in sealed containers;
  • Electric transportation (sigveys, gyroboards), smart cases and cases with built-in alarms;
  • Pressurized or liquefied gas cylinders. An exception is made for asthma inhalers.
The volume of the transported liquid must not exceed 1 liter. It may be carried in containers with a maximum volume of 100 ml.

Moulages and collectible weapons (such as Omani khanjar daggers) are allowed with a certificate stating that they are not combat weapons.

Unnormalized baggage is carried at an additional charge, provided that its dimensions do not exceed 203 cm in the sum of three dimensions. The cost of one extra seat starts from 30 euros (the exact cost depends on the flight).

Sports equipment and musical instruments may be transported in a tightly packed bag. Fragile items should be placed in a box that retains its shape. It is allowed to carry instruments or equipment in free baggage, if the baggage allowance is not exceeded. The cost of one set of sports equipment starts from 50 euros.

Hand luggage regulations

For hand luggage, there is a universal weight limit of 7 kg per seat.

Not included in the luggage:

  • laptop/electronic devices;
  • a small briefcase or handbag;
  • shoulder/belt bag;
  • An umbrella, cane, or medical walking equipment;
  • a baby food kit or baby carrier;
  • a bag of duty-free goods (if you have a receipt).

It is forbidden to carry any kind of weapons, even moulages, stabbing or blunt objects, construction tools that can be used as weapons (screwdrivers, hammers, bats).

Medicines are allowed through with a prescription from the attending physician. Passengers with medical conditions can take small medical equipment (tonometer or blood sugar meter) into the cabin. It is stowed in a bag and can be taken out when a medical condition arises in the cabin.

Animal transportation rules

If the weight of the pet does not exceed 7 kg and its dimensions are not more than 55x4x20 cm, it is allowed to be placed in the cabin. The pet is transported in a carrier. If the weight exceeds 7 kg (up to 32 kg), the pet is allowed only in the luggage compartment of the plane.

The following requirements apply to the carrier:

  • allows the animal to stand or roll over freely;
  • floor is covered with a cloth or filler that absorbs moisture;
  • a fixed bowl of water and food;
  • has good ventilation;
  • equipped with a metal door with padlock.

Before boarding, passengers must present a valid veterinary passport for each pet. Sick, pregnant animals, as well as unconscious animals are not allowed to fly. In flight, they are placed on the passenger’s lap or under the passenger’s seat. Birds of prey must have a special cap over their eyes, covering their view.

Guide dogs are allowed into the cabin without a carrier, wearing a muzzle and on a leash. It is forbidden to allow the dog to move freely on the plane.
